13. One of the tallest wooden church in the world, and the second tallest wooden structure in Europe, is found in Sapanta Peri, Maramures of northwestern Romania. The 257-foot tall church is topped by a 23-foot cross that weighs 1,000lbs.

12. A unique waterfall is hidden in Romania’s Carpathians. The Bigăr Waterfall located in the Anina Mountains was included in the World Geography’s top of ’Unique Waterfalls Around the World’. Thanks to the peculiar way the waterfalls in tiny streams over moss-covered rocks.

11. Salina Turda hosts an underground amusement park. The former salt mine Salina Turda, which dates from the 17th century, is home to an underground amusement park nestled 120 meters down in its belly. The attractions include a bowling alley, an amphitheater that regularly hosts live concerts, and a Ferris wheel. The salt mine also hosts an underground salt lake that you can explore using a paddle and rowing boats. Spending time in a salt mine will give a boost to your lungs, alleviate any allergies, and offer other amazing health benefits.

The Villages with Fortified Churches in Transylvania, the old center of the city of Sighișoara, the ruins of Sarmizegetusa Regia, the former Dacian capital in the Oraștie Mountains, the Horezu Monastery, the wooden churches of Maramureș, Moldavia’s painted churches, including Voroneț, and, for its tremendous diversity, the Danube Delta.   

9. Romania has grabbed a few quirky worlds. Romania was responsible for the world’s longest sausage. It had a length of 39 miles. Unbelievable but true!. Guinness World Records also recognize the Chestnut Festival in Baia Mare, Romania, for creating the largest bowl of goulash of 7,200 liters, and the Romanian firm ING Asigurari de Viata for printing the world’s largest legal document.

8. The oldest oven in the world was discovered in Campeni, Romania. It was established it has approximately 6,000 years.   

7. There’s an unusual cemetery with a colorful twist. The Merry Cemetery is located in the village of Săpânța and is surely the most unique of its kind. A Creation of local folk artist Stan Ioan Pătraș, the cemetery exhibits painted crosses adorned with satirical epitaphs, revealing the deceased’s message for the living world. This joyful attitude towards death comes from the Dacians. They are the Romanian’s ancestors, who believed that death was only a passage to a better life.  

6. The Parliament Palace in Romania’s capital of Bucharest is the second-largest building in the world, behind only the Pentagon. The building is 84m high. It is also the heaviest building in the world. Bucharest is also called “Little Paris.” The city’s Arcul de Triumf was constructed in 1935 to be modeled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

5. Romania has a paranormal forest!. Baciu forest in Cluj Napoca is considered one of the most paranormal areas on the planet. The place is eerie and if you are a fan of getting spooked, even being near it would be enough. That was one of the spooky facts about Romania!  

4. Romania has one of the world’s most beautiful roads. In his search for the world’s best driving road, Jeremy Clarkson declared that he had found it in the middle of Romania – in the form of the Transfagarasan highway. It is an extraordinary feat of engineering with a stretch of tarmac packed with tunnels, viaducts, and bridges. The road was another Ceaușescu creation. He wanted to ensure that in the event of a Soviet invasion there was a speedy way of escaping through the strategic and scenic mountain passes of the Southern Carpathians   

3. The world’s first top-scoring Olympic gymnast is Romanian. Nadia Comăneci, a Romanian gymnast, was the first in the world to receive a 10 in an Olympic Competition of Gymnastics. She received it during the 1976 Olympic Summer Games organized in Montreal, Canada. Several gold Olympic medals and part of the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame are boasted by her. She was just 14 years old at that time!

2. The creator of the coffee machine was born in Romania. Many people drink Illy coffee, an Italian claiming espresso, as part of their national heritage. But few know that Francesco Illy, creator of the automatic steam espresso coffee machine, was born in the Romanian city of Timișoara. He then moved to Italy where he opened his business, the world-known coffee roasting company Illy Caffe.  

1.An underground glacier is hidden in Romania. The Scărișoara Glacier can be found underneath the Bihor Mountains and is the second-largest underground glacier in Europe. With a volume of 75,000 cubic meters, the glacier has been in existence for more than 3,500 years.
