15 Things You Should Never Search On Google

Google is a go-to person when you are curious, doubtful, or just simply bored. However, there are certain things you might not want to search on Google. There are images you will wish you never saw and sites you do not want to land in. So here are 15 things you should never search on Google.

1. Your Favorite Food

According to a study done by the Max Planck Society – a research organization out of Germany – seeing images of food naturally makes you hungry. When you see a photo of your favorite food, your body rapidly releases a hormone called ghrelin into the bloodstream, causing a spike in your appetite. Ghrelin is produced in the stomach and is responsible for creating appetite. So you better not search for your favorite food, when you know you cannot have it.

2. Cancer

In this case, ignorance is bliss. There are so many symptoms of this disease that are similar to many not so harmful conditions. Symptoms like fatigue, weight loss is not usually anything serious. You don’t want to mistake such common symptoms for cancer and start panicking.

3. Customer Care Numbers Of Companies

Fraudsters are waiting to land their next victim. You might not want to be one of them. There are many fake business listings and customer care numbers on websites. Customer care number search is one of the most common scams on Google. So try to find customer care numbers from authentic sources and Google isn’t really one of them.

4. E-commerce Websites And Offers

Fake web pages of so-called offers on e-commerce websites are rampant on Google. This is another classic scam. People are tempted to click on attractive deals on malicious websites. Just that one click is enough to steal your banking details. Steer clear of such pages.

5. Death Clock

You may be asked to enter your date of birth and BMI in a website with eerie images to predict the day you die. You know it’s not true, then why lose sleep over it.

6. Things People Have Found In Fast Food

People have found many not so appetizing things like …. Well you don’t want to know if you want to continue eating. So let’s not dig deeper into that.

7. Online Banking Websites

Do not search for this unless you know the exact URL. Always, enter the official URL of your bank’s online banking portal to access the site to stay safe. There may be sites that look exactly like your bank’s but could be just another phishing site. Security researchers at DomainTools have found 346 fake sites, comprising 110 for HSBC, 74 each for Barclays and Standard Chartered. False URLs run by scammers include www.hsbc-direct.com, www.barclaya.net, and www.lloydstsbs.com. Don’t fall for this.

8. Your Name

I bet you have already done that. So, maybe you know why you shouldn’t. You are going to come across the results that you are not so happy with. There could be your photos that you had deleted a long time ago, outdated information, and maybe some negative information. You don’t want to waste your time obsessing over these things. So try not to search for your name.

9. Giving Birth

We all know how stressful and painful this process is, but we might still be underestimating its magnitude. The movie scenes are scary enough; the things you find on Google are a whole another level. So don’t try searching for this.

10. Bedbugs

If you are planning to travel and stay at hotels, it would be better not to search for bedbugs. Five minutes of exposure to the warning signs of bedbugs could convince even discerning people that these six-legged intruders are hiding in their bedding. Images of bedbug infestations are not pretty either. If you want to sleep peacefully at night, you won’t look it up.

11. Coupons

Searching for coupons online is an easy way to save money. Unfortunately, it’s also an easy way to give your name and contact information to scammers. Scam coupon sites often ask for your contact information and some ask for your banking details. A Google search turns up dozens of websites. It may be anything from car loans to pharmaceuticals. These sites provide fake coupons to print, meaning that buyers don’t know they were scammed until the store worker rejects their coupon. If your information is sold, you will start receiving spam calls, text messages, or emails to the contact information you provided. Why go through all this trouble for a free coupon that is fake. So, try resisting your temptation for free things and don’t search for coupons on Google.

12. Anything Illegal

Using Google to search for an illegal internet activity is a crime. Police can use your search behavior, search history, and social network to book a case against you. There are certain activities that are legal in some countries but not in yours. Be aware of that and refrain from illegal online activity.

13. Free Antivirus Apps And Software

There are many fake products out there. It is going to be a near-impossible task to find legitimate ones. You may end up downloading more viruses. You should buy antivirus apps and software from shops or websites you trust.

14. Anything Suspicious

You may be searching out of curiosity but searching for how to make bombs have landed some people in trouble previously. Remember that police tracks these kinds of searches, and your IP address can appear in their database. So don’t let your curiosity get the better of you.

15. Health Issues

Symptoms like cough, nausea, and sneezing could be synonymous with a lot of conditions. You may get confused and overwhelmed with all the information you may find. There may be websites with quality content managed by medical professionals but nothing equals consultation from an experienced doctor in person. Also, according to Tim Libert, a doctoral student at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication, more than 90% of the 80,000 health-related pages he looked at exposed user information to third parties. Google collects information from 78% of the pages that Libert looked at, which gives advertisers an easy way to figure out that a user has specific health issues, and find out what issues those are. Now, there are two good reasons why you shouldn’t search for your health issues online. So if you have any medical issues don’t turn to Dr.Google, instead visit a trusted doctor.

Now, you know what to steer clear of in your next Google search.
