1. Canada is the world’s second-largest country by total area, right after Russia and before the United States of America. Despite Canada’s great size, it is one of the world’s most sparsely populated countries, with a population density of only 4 people per square km.

2. Canada shares an 8,890-km long border with the United States which is the longest border in the world not patrolled by military forces. Yes, an 8,890 km long international boundary without a soldier! Also, nine out of ten Canadians live in this US – Canada border region.

3. Canada has more lakes than any other country in the world. Can you imagine it boasts a whooping  879,800 lakes? This means that out of the 1.42 million lakes around the world, Canada is home to a marvellous 62% of them. The province of Ontario alone contains about a third of the world’s freshwater, spread over 250,000 lakes. It also has the longest coastline in the world.

4.  Winters in Canada can be quite harsh, particularly in the interior provinces, where daily average temperatures are near −15 °C, but can drop as low as −40 °C with severe wind chills. In non-coastal regions, snow can cover the ground for almost six months of the year, while in parts of the north, snow can persist throughout the year. The lowest temperature ever recorded in the country, stood at an unbelievable low of −63°C, recorded at Snag, Yukon, in 1947.

5. Canada is the most educated country in the world, with a literacy rate of 99% where more than 57% of the population has a post-secondary education!

6. On Jan. 10, 1962, Pincher Creek, a town in Canada, saw a dramatic temperature rise of 41 degree Celsius from -19 degree Celsius up to 22 degree Celsius, that too in an hour. Yes, a 41 degree Celsius rise in the temperature in 60 minutes!

7. A national park in Canada known as Wood Buffalo National Park, is the country’s largest national park spread at 44,807 square kilometers. Do you know, that the national park alone is bigger than countries such as Denmark, Switzerland, and the Netherlands?

8. Did You know, that you can write a letter in any language and send it to the address “North Pole, H0H oHo, Canada” and you will receive a letter back from Santa Claus?

9. Almost half of the population in Canada was born in some foreign country. Infact, the country welcomed 341,000 new permanent residents in 2019!
