Carmel by the Sea is situated in Monterey County, California. It was founded in 1902 and is famous by the name Carmel. This place is renowned for its natural views and rich artistic history. Sixty percent of the local population devoted their lives to work connected to aesthetic arts.
This town is quite famous for being dog friendly. Also, it has numerous hotels and retail establishments admitting guests who had pet dogs.
This town is quite picturesque and is situated on the central coast of California. The fairy-like architecture of the place makes it the perfect backdrop for Hansel and Gretel’s movie. How To Reach There
It takes approximately 15 minutes to reach Carmel by the Sea from Monterey Airport. Also, it takes 2.5 and 6 hours respectively from San Francisco and Los Angeles Airport. Proper parking is available at the Carmel. Also, one can avail of the facility of free 2-hour curbside parking.
History Of Carmel By The Sea
The local inhabitants have been living here for the past one thousand years. It was first inhabited by the Native Americans and later on by the Europeans. This place was first explored and claimed as Carmel Valley of Spain by Sebastian Vizcaino. He named the region after the patron saint “Our Lady of Mount Carmel”.
After 1770, the Spanish started to colonize Carmel. They constructed the Carmel Mission which later changed into Carmel by the Sea.
Attractions of Carmel By The Sea
Carmel by the Sea is a place that offers scenes of majestic coastline. There are exquisite features such as white sand beaches and rocky coves. The sunset is one major thing that tourists come here to experience.
There exists a popular spot for nature lovers known as Carmel River State Beach. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy diving, kayaking, bird watching, and surfing.
Point Lobos State Reserve is yet another attraction of Carmel by the Sea. This park has endless beauty and is renowned for blue water and amazing scenery.
Carmel Beach and Ocean Avenue is a magnificent stretch of soft white sand. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. One can experience a secluded feel which is quite rare in a popular resort town.
The 17 Mile Drive stretches from Carmel by the Sea to Lover’s Point Park. It is best known for the Lone Cypress and a 200-year-old tree. It runs through a private property which is managed by the Pebble Beach Resorts.
Fairy Tale Cottages are very famous in Carmel by the Sea. It has a fancy architecture which was curated by Hugh Comstock. At present, twenty-one of Comstock’s original thirty fairy tale cottages survive.
The Tor House and Hawk Tower are located on a point directly overlooking the sea. The construction was done with granite sourced from the beaches of Carmel. The Hawk Tower was built with the intention to be a creative space for his wife and sons.
