The Gas Giants| Might Have Life

A gas giant is a planet that mostly consists of Helium and or Hydrogen. The gas giants in our solar system are Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus. The other names of the gas giants are giant planets and Jovian planets. The term “gas giants” was not discovered by the astronomers but by James Blish, American science fiction and fantasy writer. He was the one who coined this term and introduced it to the world. Saturn and Jupiter are the gas giants whereas Neptune and Uranus are further classified into ice giants.

The planets are the composition of many elements and compounds and to identify them easily they are divided into three groups. Now let us discuss them. First Rocks, there are two types of rocks found on these planets they are Silicates and Metals. Next, we have gas. The two kinds of gases found are Helium and Hydrogen. Moving on the ices found on the planets are Water, Methane, and Ammonia.

Let’s discuss the composition of these Gas giants!

The content of the gas on the planet makes it impossible to walk on it. They are massive but not huge enough to generate energy like a star. According to the astronomers these gas giants were first formed as rocky and icy planets like the terrestrial planets in our solar system.

The Formation of gas giants and chances of life on it!

The existence of these planets has been in our solar system for billions of years and yet we have not seen the formation of one. We can still get the idea of it through theories and computer graphics and simulation. There is no possibility of life on these surfaces as they are huge balls of gas and no surface where we can sustain them. Although there can be a possibility of microbial life on the icy moons of the planets or perhaps there can be other life possibilities that science may not have considered. Saturn has the largest number of moons, which is 82 moons, followed by Jupiter’s 79 moons, Uranus has 27 and Neptune has 14 moons.

The gas giants in our solar system have moons but with that they also have rings. The rings of Saturn are made up of mostly ice and rock with their specific orbits. The rings of Saturn are the most prominent ones in comparison to others. The rings of Jupiter are mainly dust and rocks. It also has a large magnetic field that surrounds the planet. They are not much prominent as Saturn’s ring. Like the other astronomical elements in our space, the gas giants are also fascinating, diverse, complex, and yet a mystery to solve. There are still a substantial amount of things in our space that are unidentified and are still to be discovered by astronomers and scientists.

People with that much curiosity also study about them and contribute to the research team about it. The space is a never-ending mystery and we are aware of just a bit about it. To sum up this topic the gas giants are a part of our solar system which are mostly gas. The two gases, Hydrogen and Helium are the main content of these planets. The rings of these planets are mainly dust and rocks. These planets don’t have any terrestrial surface like other planets in our solar system. The research is still in progress.
