11. The Bahamas is said to have been one of the first places where Christopher Columbus and his crew made landfall. It is also said that when he got there, the native Lucayan Taino people were already present.   

10. Waters here are some of the clearest in the world. The Bahamas is famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters. Did you know that you can see the bottom of the deep sea from the water’s surface? It’s possible to see the ocean floor 200 feet below the surface which is approximately equal to the height of a 20-story building! Of course, the water close to shore is pretty spectacular too.   

9. The world’s second deepest blue hole is in The Bahamas. With a drop off of 660 ft, Dean’s Blue Hole on Long Island in The Bahamas is the stuff world records are made of. Loads of divers choose this spot precisely for the likelihood of setting world records there.

8. The Bahamas has the most famous swimming with pigs experience in the Caribbean, and it is something you won’t want to miss out on. You’ll need to take a boat out to Big Major Cay, also known as Pig Island for this tour, and once you get close enough to the island, you’ll see some of the pigs swimming out to your boat to greet you.

7. It has one of the world’s biggest aquariums. The aquarium at the garish Atlantis Paradise Island resort encompasses 14 lagoons, eight million gallons of water, and more than 50,000 aquatic animals from 250 species. There’s even a water slide that runs through the middle of it.  

6. The Junkanoo festival of Bahamas is a real Caribbean party if there ever was one. Held on Christmas and New Year’s Day annually, Junkanoo is a big event in The Bahamas. The celebration can be described as the Bahamian version of carnival. If you’ve never experienced a Caribbean carnival, expect lots of music, costumes, live bands, traditional instruments, parties, parades, floats, and lots of excitement.

Stretching more than 190 miles in length – The Andros Barrier Reef in The Bahamas is one of the biggest barrier reefs in the world – and the third-largest living organism on the planet. 4. The Bahamas was once a pirate haven not just for the movies but in real life too!. From the early 16th to 17th century, the Bahamas were a popular pirate destination. The shallow waters were a great opportunity to lure merchants and Spanish galleons on to the reefs. Once there, they were easy prey for experienced pirates.

3. One of the longest known underwater cave system in the world can be found in Lucayan National Park, on Grand Bahama Island. The blue holes of the Bahamas yield a scientific trove that may even shed light on life beyond Earth. If only they weren’t so dangerous to explore.   It was carved during the glacial period when the sea level was around 250 feet lower than its current level.  

2. The Bahamas is one of the only places in the world where you can find pink sand beaches, and Harbour Island, located to the northeast of Eleuthera, is one of the best places to find them. You’ll commonly hear the island being referred to as “Briland” by locals, and it’ll probably be love at first sight once you glance upon the quaint Dunmore Town, which is littered with pastel-colored cottages.

1.. There’s an underwater road in Bahamas. You can’t drive on the Bimini Road, as it’s underwater and is a rock formation. Some belief it to be part of the legendary lost city of Atlantis but They are wrong as it is just a rock formation.
